(More customer reviews)I was disappointed after spending $50 on this clamp to help with my macro photography.
The arm stays where you put it, but the nature of the small jointed tubing means it is very prone to vibration and a slight breeze can keep the clamp and the arm bouncing which negates most of the functionality I wanted. The McClamp on a stick may work better.
I ended up buying sturdier 3/4" Loc-Line tubing, fixed mount end caps (with holes), and packs of double sockets from ModularHose and made two sturdier (and longer) macro arms with a variety of clamps for about $75 for two 32" long arms. And it was easy to make them. I only had to buy some 1/4" screws at the hardware store for a $1 and I used some foam rubber I already had on hand to cushion the inside of the 'macro' end clamp.
I'm glad I tried the McClamp because it showed me how to make something that is better suited (almost perfect) for my needs. When I take friends out shooting they are jealous of my flexible clamping arms -- one can hold a reflector panel or shade while the other keeps a macro subject like a flower very steady!
