To those who own an LP530 and are looking for another lamp after about 1800 hours of use. You may have seen "Change Lamp" messages for a few times, then one day the lamp flickers for half a second at power-up, then nothing but a red flashing light on top.
Uh oh - I guess I need a new lamp. NO YOU DON'T! InFocus, in their "put the customer last" design attitude, has decided to DELIBERATELY TURN OFF a perfectly good lamp at 1800 hours of use, even if it still works. Here's how you can get around that (this only works once the timer hits 1800 hours - I've tried to reset it early, but it has no effect):
1) Turn it off and unplug the power. Flip it over.
2) If you want to take the lamp out and blow the projector out with compressed air, it's very easy to do. I would do that periodically anyway.
3) If you don't see any obvious blow-out of the lamp, RE-INSTALL IT. Power it up and hold down VOLUME - and SOURCE at the same time for 5 seconds. On top of the unit, it's the TOP ARROW and LEFT ARROW in the 4-button grid below the MENU button.
4) Bingo, the lamp timer will reset and you will probably get a fully functional projector again, WITHOUT having to spend $400 on a replacement.
5) I'd buy a replacement bulb anyway to have it around in case it really does fail, but if you run the projector with ECO MODE turned on, your lamp should last significantly longer than InFocus' artificial 1800 hour time limit. Just keep resetting it every 1800 hours until it fails, try not to move it or jostle it much, clean it with compressed air periodically, and run it in ECO MODE for best lamp life.
