(More customer reviews)Although Amazon did not state clearly that this is an original Panasonic bulb, the one I received is. It was an exact replacement, in Panasonic packaging, and it works great.
If you are curious whether or not replacing your bulb may help improve the brightness of your projector, here is some data. As always, your mileage may vary. I have read that bulbs have quite a variation in lifetime, etc.
I have owned my Panasonic PT-AE900U projector for about 2 to 3 years. I use it in low-power mode 99% of the time. After this many years, I felt that the bulb was getting dimmer - but had no way to really tell for sure. Nevertheless, I decided to replace it, and am glad I did. In addition to extending the projector's future use, it is now significantly brighter.
The projector had the original bulb and I had put about 1850 hours on it. Mostly from viewing about 5 days a week for an hour to 3 hours per night.
First, I purchased a replacement bulb from Ebay to save about a hundred bucks, but I had to send it back, as it would not power up. (The bulb was not manufactured by Panasonic).
Finally I broke down and paid for a real Panasonic bulb.
After installing it this evening, I can state that the brightness has increased from about 170 lumens (old bulb) to about 500 lumens (new bulb). This was measured with an inexpensive, but reasonably accurate lux meter, using images of snow to provide a near-full white level, with zoom set to nearly full-wide angle, and producing a screen of about 100 inches diagonal or 2.84 square meters (the actual lux values were 62 before replacement and 180 after replacement). The projector was using the unit's preset "Video" mode for both before and after.
This data seems to confirm what I had read about bulbs falling to half brightness when used for half lifetime (in this case, it had fallen to about 1/3 original brightness after being used for nearly 2/3 of expected lietime).
Hopefully this is useful to someone - but I would advise you to collect other data and opinions before spending lots of bucks just for brightness improvement. I took the gamble and it paid off, but can't guarantee it will for you. But if you're just needing a new bulb because yours has burned out or is approaching the rated 3000 hour mark, this bulb is a good one :-)
